He was born in Zarauz (Guipúzcoa) the 2nd October 1961. Nowadays he lives in Zarauz, even if before he lived for some years in Vitoria, capital of Alava and the Basque Autonomous Community. He has a degree in Basque Philology. Nowadays he is consecrated to creation and production: not just as a bertsolari, but also as a scriptwriter for television or a writer in different genres. He has collaborated in mass media, in oral and written Basque press. He has published a disc with all the bertsos he has written, in the same way in which he has composed lyrics for many others.

From the end of the 80's and beginning of 90's, he has been one of the most important representatives of the improvised bertso.

Bertsolari, researcher and theoretician, Andoni Egaña has provided a new perspective to the way to understand the internal process of the performance. He has participated in several experiences in which bertsolaritza has been mixted to other arts (dance, music, poetry...).

He has been responsible for the Department of Research and member of the Board of directors of the Association of Friends of bertsolaritza for many years.
