Born in Legazpia (Guipuzcoa) the 14th April 1953. He got a degree in Philosophy and Journalism and he is doctor in audio-visual communication and publicity since 1999 thanks to the thesis Gaur egungo bertsolarien baliabide poetiko-erretorikoak (poetic-rhetorical resources of contemporary bertsolaris). Nowadays he is teacher of publicity in the UPV in addition to writer, and collaborator of oral and written press.

The trajectory of Joxerra Garzia is closely related to the world of communication and bertsolaritza: he has made and directed programs about bertsolaritza in television and radio. He has been also critic of bertsos for the written press.

On the other hand, he has worked in the creation of didactic material for the learning of bertsolaritza in the schools. The work of Joxerra Garzia has become a unavoidable reference to be explain and understand the phenomenon of bertsolaritza.

As a writer, he includes different genres (literature for children, personal poetry, novel, reflections...). He was president of the Association of Basque Writers and nowadays he directs the series Zer Berri within the publishing house Alberdania.
